Recent Sales Noted on Ebay
I have begun listing here recent sales made on Ebay as a way of helping people value their insulators. Of course your insulators are only worth what someone will pay, but it's a start.
The details are reproduced here as they were on Ebay with some trimming, but including spelling mistakes!
The postage quoted was as advertised at the time, actual postage depended upon the bidders location. It is merely present to give an indication of postage variations as the extortionate then becomes obvious

An English patent porcelain insulator. It has 'patent' stamped on the shoulder and the letter 'G' on the top. Lancashire & Yorkshire Railway Telegraph Insulator 1913
A rather battered example of a ceramic telegraph insulator from the Lancashire & Yorkshire Railway and dated 1913. 5" tall. Clearly Marked L.Y.R 13, it is in reasonable condition with chips, but there is a vertical crack running from the top to the bottom, to the rear of the outer shed of the insulator. There is a less serious hairline crack to the front which may just in the glaze. The cordeaux screw thread is also blocked with the remains of the metal spindle. Displays OK from the front though! Whilst similar in shape to the 1903 one also listed. It is obviously from a different manufacturer, being in a softer ceramic, and glazed on the top.

Early Railway Telegraph Insulator.European manufacture?
Another offering from my collection of Railway Insulators, An early example made from the very white Hard Paste porcelain. Rather squatter in appearance with a fatter top section, larger diameter, and a much shorter outer shed, the inner shed protruding about 1/2". No makers name but impressed on the top with W 7244. The interesting thing is that the figure seven appears to be of the continental type with a cross bar. I wonder if this is the origin of the occasional L &Y insulator made from a similar material? Used by the Lancashire & Yorkshire Railway, but unfortunately not company marked. Undated. 5" tall. In very good condition, a couple of small chips to the base of the inner shed. Cordeaux thread clear and useable.
£2.99 plus £4.00 postage. Zero bids

Lancashire & Yorkshire Railway Telegraph Insulator 1903

Clearly Marked L.Y.R. 03 , it is in good condition internally and externally, with no cracks or chips. The cordeaux thread is clear and useable. Made from the hard white ceramic which I think might be of European manufacture, being unlike the softer creamier ceramic typical of British manufacturers.

Telegraph Insulator double hanger brackets x 4. LYR/LMS
FOUR original double hangers for mounting telegraph insulators on a telegraph pole. In good condition, threads sound and with free moving original nuts and washers. Galvanised, but with some surface rusting. Excellent for age as they had LYR and LMS insulators on, so unless old insulators were re used on new poles and fittings, these arelikely to be of Lancashire and Yorkshire railway origin. Unfortunately I have not found any company markings! Ideal for displaying a collection of insulators. For clarity, photo shows only one of the set of four similar that I am selling. Dimensions 8 1/2" high from base of U to top of central threaded portion with nut. 8" between centres of mounting threads. 3" of screw thread on central shaft, so will mount on a timber cross bar up to 3 1/4" thick.

Lancashire & Yorkshire Railway Telegraph Insulator
A rather damaged example of a ceramic telegraph insulator from the Lancashire & Yorkshire Railway, unusually undated. 5" tall. Clearly Marked LYR , it is in good condition externally, with no cracks or chips, but unforunately the inner shed is badly damaged, and the remains of the metal spindle are rusted into the screw thread. Nevertheless it still displays quite well, and might suffice til a better one was obtained. LONDON MIDLAND SCOTTISH RAILWAY LMS TELEGRAPH INSULATOR
This very unusual insulator, made from a soft graphite type material, is embossed to its top - LE / GPO / 38. I presume it dates to around 1938 and the poor quality material its made from would support this? (ie pre second world war). The telegraph wire was wrapped around the top and linked one telegraph pole to another. It measures just over 4 inches in height and is quite heavy. Generally, it's condition is OK although it does have a few nibbles and small chips - however I've never seen another one.

Lancs & Yorks Railway Bullet shape Telegraph Insulator.
Another offering from my collection of Railway Insulators, A nice example of a Bullet Shaped ceramic telegraph insulator from the Lancashire & Yorkshire Railway. Similar to the BULLERS example listed recently, but this one is in a very white hard paste porcelain, and carries no manufacturers mark. Unlike the more usual LYR pattern, this is undated. 5" tall. Marked L.Y.R. , near the top. It appears to be in good condition, with no cracks or chips. I say "appears to be", because the very top section was neatly sheared off along the wire groove, but being such a hard, glass like porcelain, it has been superglued back on, neatly, and you wouldn't know if I wasn't so honest! Cordeaux screw thread clear and undamaged.
