Recent Sales Noted on Ebay
I have begun listing here recent sales made on Ebay as a way of helping people value their insulators. Of course your insulators are only worth what someone will pay, but it's a start.
The details are reproduced here as they were on Ebay with some trimming, but including spelling mistakes!
The postage quoted was as advertised at the time, actual postage depended upon the bidders location. It is merely present to give an indication of postage variations as the extortionate then becomes obvious

SUPERB RAILWAY DATED STONEWARE TELEGRAPH INSULATOR
SUPERB RAILWAY DATED STONEWARE TELEGRAPH INSULATOR This large size stoneware insulator has a red glaze and was used on one of the many railway lines. It was found on a dis-used branch line of the North Norfolk railway line and is impressed to its top - the date 1959 is still visible. The telegraph wire was wrapped around the top and linked one telegraph pole to another. This really is a rare opportunity to purchase an item from the start of the great communication age. It measures just over 4.75 inches in height and is very heavy due to the thinkness of the ceramic. It is in good condition - an interesting item with no reserve!

L.M.S. & L.N.E.R. TELEGRAPH WIRE INSULATORS (2)
Any of you over about 40 years of age will remember the long rows of telegraph poles that used to stand in line alongside the railway. They were all cut down after the telegraph and telephone wires they carried were put underground in the 1960's. The items offered are 2 of the ceramic insulators that were used to attach the wires to the posts. They are soiled due to their time in all weathers being shrouded in the smoke from steam locomotives. One is embossed "L.N.E.R." (London and North Eastern Railway) the other "L.M.S." (London, Midland and Scottish). Thousands of these were smashed when the poles were cut down, this is a pair that has survived undamaged.
