Bullers Ltd

This page is treated as a dumping ground for information on Bullers and anything you can add would be appreciated, when enough data of consequence is available I will compile it into something a bit more comprehensive.

bullers ring advert

An advert for Bullers Rings used in a trade catalogue prior to 1960. The rings are used to measure the value of heat-work achieved during firing and is related to the shrinkage of the rings, referred to as Pyrometrics.

Other Pyrometric devices include Bullers Bars and lately Bullers Discs. Currently, these products are marketed under the Bullers name but produced by Taylor Tunnicliff Ltd.

The address on the bottom of the advert places Bullers at 'Joiners Square Works, Hanley, Stoke - on - Trent' , Tel: Stoke-on-Trent 22341, Grams: Bullers.Stoke-on-Trent.

No printed material has yet been found advertising telegraph insulators in any form, and this is the only piece found were the logo has been reproduced, see bottom right of advert.

bullers impressed logo

A close up shot showing the bullers hand logo applied to an insulator.

The logo represents a hand holding an insulator support upon which is mounted a treble shed insulator that has a power line attached. The sparks obviously indicate that the power line is live and that no electricity is being leaked past the insulator to the hand.

The date sits either side if the insulator and seems to be an option.

'Made in England' wraps around the bottom, though sometimes this is replaced with 'Bullers Limited' or the pattern no. eg NO.1, for a standard PO pattern or NO.16 for pothead.

Further information regarding the Bullers logo style, positioning and dates can be found on the Chronology Of The Bullers Logo page

bullers low loss ceramics advert

And as soon as I state that no more adverts / literature had been found, out popped several copies of Wireless World from the early 1940's, stuffed full of period adverts, unfortunatley as the title implies, Wireless World, they are not aimed directly at my area of research, but they are interesting all the same.
